The Ormond at Tetbury

Dating from the 17th Century, the hotel is a comfortable blend of old and new, creating an atmosphere which is relaxed, informal and individual. With elegant rooms, delicious award-winning food, a friendly bar and exceptional service, the Ormond is the perfect location for business or pleasure. A traditional coaching inn, The Ormond has been added to over the centuries and the latest alterations were carried out around 1900 when the new Victorian facade was added to the structure. During the 1st World War it was used as an army telegraphic and postal station for communications to soldiers fighting in France and in the 2nd World War American soldiers occupied the hotel to convalesce from injuries sustained in battle. The hotel has it on good authority that American Generals also met at the hotel for part of the planning for the Omaha Invasion in June 1944! Since these times the Ormond has gone through much change and the hotel has done much to bring back the atmospheric character of the building. Whether you are just dropping by for a relaxing drink at the end of a hard week this winter or staying with the hotel to explore the area, the hotel will go out or the way to make you feel welcome. The mulled wine is back on the bar in December and as always the fire will be on and candles burning to warm up these cold winter evenings. Board games, magazines and the new sofa area has recently been added to make you stay as comfortable as possible. As you would expect from a building that dates from the 17th century, the bedrooms come in a variety of shapes and sizes, all with their own distinctive character. All rooms have flat screen LCD TVs with Free-view. All have tea & coffee making facilities in the room or you can order room service if you wish. Cots are available for babies, with a baby basket of essentials provided in case you've forgotten anything. Monitors work in the restaurant or bar from most of the bedrooms or the hotel can organize a professional babysitter.
